Q: Anxiety Medication?
Does anyone know if there is an anxiety medication that is sold over the counter that doesn't cost alot?
A: Proloftin. I have never tried it though. I use xanax. Its not really that expensive through the pharmacy.
Q: anxiety medication?
can you get a prescription for anxiety medication from a general physician, or do you need to go to a psychiatrist? also, what are some prescriptions used for anxiety disorder and panic disorder?
A: you can get a script for either one. i wouldn't suggest benzo's like Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan. they are highly addictive drugs. your body builds a tolerance to the drug, making it to where you need more to calm your anxiety. i am on Vistaril for my anxiety. it works just as well if not better than benzo's. it has very few side effects and it is NON-ADDICTIVE unlike the benzo's. i have been on it for 2 years and never once have i had to up the dosage. just be careful and talk to your doctor. ask if it is an addictive drug before getting him to give you a script. i was hooked on Ativan & Xanax the withdrawals i had coming off of them was extreme suffering.
hope this was of some help! i wish you all the best!
hugs,
Lesli
Q: How long are you supposed to take anti anxiety medication and can it stop your abnormal anxiety for good?
I'd like to know generally how anti anxiety medications work, how long one is supposed to take them, and how a person or a doctor knows when is the right time to stop the medication.
If the anxiety is due to a chemical imbalance, does that mean the meds must be taken forever?
A: Are they selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors? They build up to a maximum therapeutic level, and slowly become less and less effective as time goes on. It depends on the drug, but they are not a permanent solution. They help break the cycle of anxiety, but it is necessary to change the circumstances that provoked the anxiety to begin with. Otherwise it is likely to happen again. The doctor should have told you how long to continue with the course of treatment, or at least have advised you of the typical duration.
Q: What anti anxiety medication can you take while pregnant?
I am currently on Paxil and I know that is harmful to the baby while pregnant. I would like to start trying for a family with my husband, but currently really do need the anxiety medication. Anyone else take anything while they were pregnant or know someone who did?
Just a little added info, the source of my anxiety came when I started having horrific back pain. I have scoliosis and living w/ the pain, put me on edge and I started having issues w/ anxiety.
A: Well,my anxiety was so severe when I was pregnant that I would come so close to actually passing out.And I also had an 18 month old to care for.I was being cared for by a 'high risk' OB/GYN,and he was GREAT!!! But anyways he gave me xanax, and I know some will say this was a bas thing, but I only took this medication only when needed, not on a regular basis.Because this kind of medication works fast.not over time,I had such a hard first delivery that I was in great fear of having the same repeat problem with my second baby.I was in labor for 3 days with basically no amniotic fluid(sorry if I mis-spelled it).I had to have surgery,it was just awful for me and my baby. But every single situation calls for different medical treatments...I wish you and your baby all the very best!!!!!
Q: Is there a natural anxiety medication for pregnant women that will not harm the fetus?
I am 24 for and just found out that I am about six weeks pregnant and I have been on anxiety medication for years. Is there any safe herbal or prescription medication I can take because I have sever anxiety and Panic attacks. I stopped my medications and need to find a safer medication to take until my child is born.
A: Have your doctor wean you off gradually or you can suffer severe emotional crashing. He can tell you what to do next.
All the B vitamins help with stress. Maybe you can start walking every day. Maybe for ten minutes to start and then build up to a good half hour. You can get hooked on walking with no harmful effects if you have a normal pregnancy.
You don't have to go to extremes, you have time to regulate your body. You don't have to apologize for being on medicine for panic attacks. The good far outweighs the bad.
Good luck, God Bless you. Get ready for your little one.
Q: Is there an anti-anxiety medication that you can take but still drink alcohol without horrible side effects?
I know it's a horrible idea to mix alcohol and any medication, especially anti-anxiety meds and anti-depressants. I also know that everyone is different and people react differently. But I was just wondering if you know of any anti-anxiety meds/anti depressants that are not as horrible to mix with alcohol.
A: Not sure, and not worth the risk. Have you tried any cognitive behavior therapy? It's much more effective and long lasting at getting rid of depression and anxiety than medications, which just suppress the problem rather than getting to the root. Listen, if you are feeling anxiety or depression, you should realize that it's a blessing in disguise, that can allow you to become mentally stronger than you ever thought you could. I know this first hand. Look up some books by David Burns, they have really helped me. Read "When Panic Attacks." I really wish you the best of luck.
Q: What anti-depressent/anxiety medication does not cause weight gain?
My psychiatrist wants me to go on meds for depression/social anxiety. I struggle with my weight though and really don't want a medication that will cause weight gain. Ideas?!
A: It's different for everyone. I haven't gained weight while on prozac, I've maybe even lost a few pounds, but that doesn't mean you'll lose weight while taking it.
Q: Can prescription anxiety medication affect my security clearance?
I've been in the Navy for about 3 months now, in my "A" School at the moment for IT. Would getting a prescription for anxiety medication affect my security clearance? They do mental screenings for TS and I'd rather not try to get some meds if it's going to cost me my clearance.
A: They do mental health screening's for service members in the Personal Reliability Program...not for some joe who needs a top secret clearance.
I heard talk about the mental health question being deleted from the ESPQ forms for normal clearances. Dunno if that's happened though.
Q: What medication would you recommend for anxiety?
I'm waiting for an appointment with a doctor but i was wondering what kind of anti-anxiety medications work for others? I usually won't take any medications because everything makes my stomach hurt but my panic disorder has gotten so bad that i can't take it anymore. I have tried hypnosis and therapy and a few medications when i was younger but nothing works. I would appreciate anything you have found that helps and what the side effects were. Thanks.
A: My first was Lexapro, it didn't work. Then I worked my way to Paxil CR, which worked but brought on 30 pounds. I've been on welbutrin sr, zoloft, cymbalta, prestique, all of them took away my panic attacks and faded my anxiety attacks but brought on extra weight and derealization/depersonalization. I feel like i'm living in a fog, like a zombie. I just recently got off all meds, and mysteriously lost 8 pounds of the 70 i gained while on them. Everyone is different, everyone's body is different, the best thing to do is try diff ones until you find whats best for you. And don't let anyone say that the pill isn't an answer, some people do not know how it is to be in a situation like this and automatically think it's so easy to train your thoughts. If you need antidepressants then you need them. Not everyone is capable of beating this horrid disorder on their own. I've been on them for 5 years, I simmered down, and finally thought it was time to go on my own. And so far so good. So anyways, good luck with your meds, and remember either let your doc pick for you, or let him/her know which one you'd like to try. You might have to go through a couple before you find the right one. Don't get discouraged, they can be such great help when you do find the right one.
Q: What is a Helpful Anxiety Medication?
I have anxiety badly. I go to counseling and I am on Cymbalta, and Triliptal. I also take Vistaral for anxiety as needed. I dont think I need the medication for depression and mood stablization. I believe i just have anxiety. I get scared, and fearful a lot and I get too scared to go anywhere or hang out with friends sometimes. I know its anxiety and I need to know what different anxiety medications are out there that i can try as a daily medication?
A: There are many anxiety medications out there. Drugs like Xanax, Valium, and Klonipin, are in a group of medications called "benzodiazepines". These drugs carry with them serious notorious withdrawal side effects.
Anxiety medications don't suppress anxiety but rather prevent you from feeling anxious. They are tranquilizers and they do not treat the cause of the anxiety.
Therapy is the only thing I've found to be helpful with anxiety in myself and the people I know with anxiety problems.
Q: Is smoking cigarettes bad when taking anti depressants/anxiety medication?
I'm on a daily dose of an anti depressant/anxiety medication and I think the therapist said no smoking or drinking while on it, but I'm really not sure, I can't exactly remember. So would smoking while on this cause anything bad?
A: Alcohol can affect the medication and make you sleepy. Smoking will have no affect on anti depressants.
Be careful of the anti depressants, they are highly addicted. The doctors don't tell you this. Most people have a hard time to quit the medication.
It is better to smoke a healthy cigarette than tobacco, here is the link: http://www.greensmoke.com/bestprice

I hope it helped.
Q: What is the best long term anti-anxiety medication?
I've suffered from anxiety for many years and I can't take it anymore. I want to go to the doctor about it but I think I need permanent help. What are the best long term anti-anxiety medications?
Please don't tell me that long term use is dangerous because anything is better than the way I'm feeling right now. Please don't tell me about relaxation techniques or alternative therapy because these haven't worked for me.
Thanks for answering.
A: The best one I know of is Paroxetine which takes care of this and any depression you may have. You can look it up on the web for further info. Try and stay away from any addictive meds because they will turn on you in the end. I have taken this medication for years with no side affects as well, but each person is different and the doctor will find one best suited to you. Hang in there, it does and will get better.
